Yup, it’s that time of year again. Big budget movies, with spectacularistic explosions, jaw-dropping CGI, occasional hot babes, and chock-full of testosterone, all coming to a cinema near you.

Eyeris is so excited he’s named this week Indiana Jones week. Ok……

At times like these, one must be frugal, and therefore when it comes to movies, I’m gonna pick and choose the movies I’m going to watch on the big screen. The rest can wait till they come to a pirate, err, I mean, satellite TV. (Unless if I find myself with too much time on my hands and with very little to do. Which, sad to say, is probably quite likely.)

I’ve already started my “summer” blockbuster season movie viewing last week, having watched Iron Man. Pretty good movie, that. I heartily recommend it.

Ok, way back when I used to blog at sashiweb dot com, I used to have my site hosted at Exabytes. Back then it cost me about RM199 per annum, which comes out to nearly RM17 per month.

Sure, you could have gotten other webhosting deals a lot cheaper, but there were several reasons why I chose Exabytes. First of all, I had dealt with them as a freelance web developer sourcing for webhosts for clients, and more often than not, their level of service was quite commendable.

Secondly, they came highly recommended by a couple of high-profile blogger-buddies.

And that’s how I came to be part of the Exabytes customer base. And to be honest, in the 2++ years (or it 3?) or so when I had my blog hosted there, I continued to receive good customer service and prompt replies to any problems I had, of which there were very few.

Hi dee ho, bloggerinos.

I realise that I have been criminally neglecting this blog for a long while now, with updates ranging from none to brief to those dreaded password-protected posts.

Fortunately, I don’t have a large readership (or even medium-sized, or even small… how many people need to be reading your blog before they constitute a readership?), so I guess not many have been shortchanged in that regard, eh?

But, truth be told, I’ve been preoccupied with a lot of matters, from work to some personal stuff to… more work. And this blog had to suffer for that.

Anyway, as some of you may know, I am somewhat involved (albeit indirectly nowadays) with the AllMalaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP), which is The Star’s approach to engaging the growing Malaysian blogging community.

Cube Crazy

A Rubik's cube

I learned how to solve a Rubik’s cube over the weekend.

Apparently, it is not as impressive to most people as I thought it would be.

Sigh.

This should be of interest for those curious about the power of the “new media” in today’s communications field, especially given the prominence it has attained in the aftermath of the Mar 8 General Elections.

The Public Relations Consultants’ Association of Malaysia (PRCA Malaysia), in collaboration with The Star Online and Asian Centre for Media Studies (ACMS), is organising a forum on Does New Media Influence The Way We Communicate Today?, on April 9.

The talk, part of the PRCA Malaysia’s PR Leadership Series, aims to explore the fundamental changes in audiences as well as in the communication medium used to reach them, and the way new media helps shape their opinions.

The forum will open with Text 100 International chief executive officer Aedhmar Hynes, who will speak on Peer Media and the Communications Industry.

Also speaking are Raslan Sharif (Senior Editor, The Star Online) on the subject From Old Media to New: The Star’s Experience, and Michael A. Fredericks (Portal Coordinator, AllMalaysia.Info) on the subject of The All Malaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP).

Participants will have an opportunity to interact and discuss with prominent bloggers such as Su Ann [from Nuffnang], Paul Tan and Kimberly Low, who will be giving their views on how bloggers perceive public relations. This session will be moderated by Jeremy Woolf, Peer Media Lead of Text 100 Asia Pacific.

The talk is happening at The Star’s Cybertorium, located at Level 2, Menara Star, 15 Jalan 16/11, 46350 Petaling Jaya.

Payment Options: Entrance fee is RM30 for PRCAM members and RM50 for non-PRCAM members, inclusive of coffee break. Corporate members of PRCAM may register 10 consultants and/or guests at members’ rate.
